Markus Huber
The Huber family has wine growing roots dating back more than 200 years. Today, the winery in Reichersdorf is in its 10th generation and is run by Markus Huber. His outstanding ability to manage the winery with sensitivity and consistency, both in the vineyards and the cellars, has allowed him to establish Huber Winery as an internationally acclaimed leader in the exportation of Gruner Veltliner and the star of Austria’s Traisental region. There are two distinct wine programs at Markus Huber Winery, that of Markus’s popular HUGO wines that offer high-quality at everyday prices and the HUBER estate wines that offer focused, regional and single-vineyard flavors. The Huber Winery also is a member of the ‘Traditionsweingüter Österreich’ group – an organization that includes winemakers from the Kamptal, Kremstal and Traisental regions who are interested in identifying and maintaing the best vineyard sites and winemaking traditions of Austria. His work with Traditionsweingüter Österreich led him to assist in identifying two “Erste Lage” or Premier Cru vineyard sites that he farms: The Berg Vineyard and The Alte Setzen Vineyard. These sites are the pinnacle of Traisental expression and highly influenced by limestone soils uniquely abundant in this appellation. Markus’s absolute focus on the strengths of the Traisental region and the limestone soil types that are found there ensure that year upon year his wines display unmistakable clarity and a distinct style.
