Wine

Zweigelt Nussberg

Created by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt at the famous Klosterneuberg enology school in 1922, the eponymously named variety is a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent.  Since its introduction, it has come to be the most widely planted red grape variety in Austria with close to 6,500 hectares under vine.  In Austria, the wine made from this grape is either loved or loathed for its often times simple, young drinking iterations.

The grapes for this wine are grown on the Nussberg in Vienna on soil comprised of chalky limestone. On the nose, this wine is  dominated by dark stone fruits together with nougat notes and a touch of orange zest. In the mouth, soft with a taste of caramel, balanced with a good acidity. Sweetly extracted fruit lingers on the finish.
