Müller-Thurgau, more commonly known as Rivaner throughout germanic speaking countries when produced in a dry style, was created by Swiss botanist Hermann Müller from the Canton of Thurgau. It is a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royal. In Austria, the grape accounts for only 2.8% of plantings with nearly 1300 Hectares under vine, mostly in Niederösterriech.
