Scheurebe vom Glimmerschiefer

Scheurebe, also known as Samling 88, was created by German viticulturist Georg Sheu in 1916. Despite some controversy regarding parentage, an Austrian study confirmed the variety is a cross between Riesling and Bukettraube. Predominately used in the production of sweet wines due to the aromatic characteristics of the grape, there remains some vintners still crafting dry styles. In Austria, there is a scant 300 hectares  under vine, making up .7% of all grapes planted in the country, mostly in Burgenland and the Steiermark. The medium to heavy body wine, displays notes of black currant, tropical and stone fruit, in the best iterations.
